Bill Maher recently commented that Vice President Kamala Harris avoiding journalists is “worse” than former President Donald Trump labeling them as the “enemy of the people.” Maher argued that while Trump’s rhetoric was troubling, Harris’s lack of engagement with the media undermines transparency and accountability, which he considers a greater issue.

On a recent episode of “Real Time,” host Bill Maher suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris’s avoidance of the press is “more insulting” than former President Trump’s verbal attacks on news organizations. Maher posed the question to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, asking, “What do you think about the fact that Kamala doesn’t talk to the press?”

Maher elaborated, saying, “In a way, I feel like it’s more insulting than what Trump does. Trump says you’re ‘the enemy of the people,’ which is pretty bad. What she’s kind of saying is, ‘I don’t need you. I’m not talking to you. You don’t matter. You’re not relevant anymore to me.’ To me, that’s even worse than ‘I hate you.’ It’s like ‘I don’t think about you.'”

In response to Bill Maher’s remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris avoiding the press, CNN’s Kaitlan Collins offered a different perspective. “I don’t know if it’s worse than denigrating the press on a daily basis, which is what Donald Trump did,” Collins said. Reflecting on her time covering Trump as a White House correspondent, she noted that he often tried to undermine reporters by engaging in personal arguments or outright denying facts. “So I don’t know if I would compare the two,” she added.

Collins did agree, however, that Harris should be more willing to engage with the media. “I do think she should talk to the press. I think anyone who wants to have access to the nuclear codes should be willing to sit down and take questions. And we want to have her on the show.”

Maher echoed this sentiment, responding, “I’d love to too. But I’m not going to hold my breath.”

It has been over a month since Kamala Harris was confirmed as the Democratic nominee, yet she has not conducted any interviews or held news conferences. In contrast, Donald Trump has regularly engaged with the media, granting both interviews and holding press conferences.

Earlier this month, Harris indicated that she planned to schedule an interview before the end of August. However, when Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked her on Thursday if she was ready to grant an interview with Fox News, Harris jokingly responded, “I’m working toward it.”
